Getting started with Meridian
This sample guide shows the documentation template. Follow the installation guide supplied with your package, because steps can differ between versions.
Requirements
- A WordPress site running a currently supported version of WordPress and PHP.
- An administrator account that can install and activate themes.
- A recent backup of your files and database.
- The Meridian theme package (a .zip file) from your downloads.
Before you install
- Back up the existing site and confirm you can restore it.
- Install and test on a staging copy before changing the live site.
- Gather your logo, brand colours, page content and images.
Install the theme
- In the WordPress dashboard, open Appearance → Themes and choose Add New Theme.
- Select Upload Theme, choose the Meridian .zip file and select Install Now.
- When the upload finishes, select Activate.
The package contains a standard block theme. The folders you will work with most are:
meridian/
├── style.css theme name and version
├── theme.json colours, fonts and spacing
├── templates/ page and post templates
├── parts/ header and footer
└── patterns/ ready-made sections
Set up your brand
Open Appearance → Editor → Styles to set colours and typography. These settings are stored in theme.json, so every template uses them.
- Add your logo in the Header template part.
- Choose a primary colour with enough contrast against white text on buttons.
- Keep body text at 16px or larger for comfortable reading.
Add your content
Create your main pages, then build each one from the included patterns: hero, services, case studies, testimonials and a closing call to action. Add the pages to the Navigation block in the header.
